Hair dye help please!!?

I really hope someone can help me!! My hair is naturally a dark brown shade. Several months ago my stylist colored it and it came out lighter than I wanted so he dyed it back to match my natural shade. Last night I wanted a change, so I bought a kit to dye it myself, it was especially for dark hair and was Light Ash Brown. I followed the directions which were to put on the ends for the first 20 minutes and then the roots for the last 10 minutes. Well, it turned into a disaster! The roots are much lighter and even though it was an "'ash" brown are kind of reddish, but I can live with that, the real problem is the length of my hair is still all dark brown! I really don't have the money to go to a salon. Is there any way to fix this myself? Please help me!!! I feel like a freak! If I keep my hair in a ponytail it looks fine, for some reason all the hair underneath seemed to color well, but if I let it down it looks awful!

The problem is hair dye is meant to lighten natural hair color, not dye! That's why your roots colored, but everything else didn't. I would go and buy a semi permanent color to even everything out for now and then 2 weeks from now (the proper time period between dye jobs), use permanent color to dye it all dark again. Go to a Sally Beauty Supply, the associates will help you chose the appropriate dye to even everything out.

color makes color go darker - ALWAYS. the roots weren't colored so they went to the color of the one you just used.

there is no easy way to fix the problem. that's why stylists/colorists charge so much for corrective coloring.

the only thing i could suggest is to color the roots the same color as the ends and hope it fades at the same rate. and get some hilites so it's not all one color and looking like you did it at home.

Seriously, your best bet is to go have it fixed at the salon. You will only make it worse. Trust me doll.
