Am I allergic to hair dye?

Ok, I know this is going to sound weird, but it has happened both times I have dyed my hair. The first dye job was done by a friend, but the second was a highlighting job done by a professional at Regis. The only reaction I had was that my legs broke out and itched incredibly bad for a week. No anti-itch cream would stop the itching....the only time I have had itching that bad on my legs was the two times I have dyed my hair. Is it possible that I am allergic to the hair dye? Why did it only affect my legs (my head/face were fine!)? What alternatives are there for me to make my hair several shades darker (it's reddish brown now) besides regular hair dye? If I get a hair dye without ammonia, will that make it so I'm not allergic to it? I can't even highlight my hair now!! :(

yah, i would said that you are allergic with ammonia hair dye, however, in the market there are still got somethign hair dye taht without ammonia, like Loreal Dia Color in professional hair salon, or using Milano Color balm which use it like hair mask, after using 2 to 3 times you would had hair color naturally, color inlclude fire red, chectnut, gold copper, red copper, and etc check the following side, they got sell it onlike and cheap, try it out. Yes it is possible you are allergic to the hair dye. I don't know about it only being on your legs, I have not heard of that. But you are absolutely right,a semi-permament no ammonia dye would be best for you. You should not have the same reaction. If you still have a problem after that, is there a special shampoo you use after haircolor? It could be that as well.

Try a hair dye that says it has no ammonia and less chemicals than the normal ones, but remember to put in a moisture mask the day before you dye your hair, and a hair serum after the hair has been dyed.

I am a natural blond and I love brunettes and so every time i dye my hair ( i DO THIS ONLY BECAUSE OF BLONDE JOKES)..........I have the same problem being allergic to the dyes and so I resolved this problem by taking a crap-o-la and smearing that all over my hair.......................whats better than a natural brunete!!!! Give that **** a try!!

Try taking Benadryl when you go get your hair dyed....and for the whole week. You could always go see a Dr. and ask them.

Yes, it is a definite possibility. You can go to the Health Food store and purchase healthier brands of hair dye. amnonia is a harsh chemical and it could well be the cause of this.
