Difference between salon hair dye and store bought dye?

I've always heard that salon dye is SO much better than the dye you but at the store..Is this true or do they just want you to spend $$ ? Does it really damage your hair that much differently? I know neither are good for your hair but how much worse can store bought dye really be for your hair?

I think it's a waist of money. I've been dying my hair for about 4 years now and it looks great and seems to be healthy with all of the good products I use on it...

Thanks !

Some of the difference is the wide variety of choices professionals have to work with. We have more tones, many more developers and longer lasting technology. Professional companies spend thousands every year on updating products to meet the demands of the busy professional. Most importantly we have the knowledge of what to use and when to use it. You are probably not going too far away from your natural- fairly safe in home hair color.

I personally agree with you. I just think it's for the money. If you don't have a problem with boughten hairdye...keep using it. just make sure u moisturize well! I dye my own hair as well and it works just fine. sometimes I think the salons just have the better moisturizers.

Store bought product contains lots of metal and will cause extreme static electricity in your hair. In addition, it slowly damages the hair shaft. You get what you pay for....so spring the extra cash and have it done by a professional.

*The only difference I've experienced between salon dye and store dye is that salon dye will stay in your hair until it grows out. The store dye will come out almost completely within the month. If you are worried about damaging your hair, then there's not any difference!

You can purchase the same dyes they use in a salon from your local beauty store...Sally's is my fave. When you go to a salon...you pay for the experience of the stylist;)
