Is it okay to dye my hair if...?

I went to a salon back in October and got my hair permanently dyed blue-black. It was the first time my hair has ever been dyed. There was no allergy test done [I didn't know that you had to... ^^; I should have done more reading up on it I guess.]

I didn't have any itching or redness or anything like that. It seemed like a lot of hair fell out afterwards. I didn't have any bald spots and it wasn't visibly noticeable to anyone, but I noticed a lot more than usual in the shower for about a week or two after it was dyed.

I don't know if I'm allergic, because I didn't have itching/rash/swelling/redness it just seemed like a lot of hair came out. I'm worried if I dye it again if I'll lose even more and it'll actually be visibly noticeable.

Could it have just been the ammonia that caused this or the fact it's the first time anything like this has been done to my head? More importantly, would it be safe for me to use a non-ammonia hair dye and not have chunks of hair fall out like I fear?

Hair lose is normal the first time. you damaged the air and it becomes brittle and breaks. you should wait at least 3 to 6 months before dyeing your hair again. you shouldn't have as much hair lose because your hair is already damage.

This is going to sound silly, but....

Remember you had your hair dyed to the darkest color available. Is it possible you assumed more hair fell out simply because the blue/black was more visible than your natural color? And then after a few weeks, you became accustomed to the color?

Just a thought.

Go back to the person who made yur hair like that and then ask them if this could be a serius side affect. Good luck ?

Happy Holidays

NO IF YOUR HAIR IS BLACK YOU CAN NOT DYE OVER IT!!!! you have to let it grow out before you can dye it again becasue if you try to dye it you will end up with a bleached carpet orange. and know you prolly wernt allergic to it because dying your hair simply drys it out and that is most likly why more hair fell out or you could have just been stressed out chances are you arent allergic to the dye

It is normal for some of ur hair to fall out when u dye it. More so the first time don't worry overly about it make sure u do a test spot each time u dye ur hair differant brands of dyes can do differant things. Wait at least a couple of months before dying ur hair again.

Next time use a dye that doesn't have ammonia in it because that's not good for your hair and when you get your hair dyed you have to use less hot water. Use cold water or have your water just a lil warm. You not supposed to get any treatments as far as perms r anything like that until 6weeks after. Don't dye your hair so often but if you r wait every 6months.But yes it's okay to dye your hair still. You just have to take care of your hair a lil more.Buy the best and treat your hair the way you want to be treated. (special treatment)

P.S.

Keep your dead ends clipped, use TreSemme Hair Shampoo to keep your dye from fading. But then again you could have been allergic to that dye.

It depends on what color brand it was. If it was Scruples, than ya I can see that happening. But, you may be allergic. Have the hair colorist do a sample, of what the color to be used, on the inside of you elbow or in behind you ear. This is the best way to know for sure. If you are really uncertain, try to find a salon who deals with Redken or Wella International. I have used these products for years and never had a problem with it.
