My hair was dyed blonde and i wanted to dye it medium brown with a hint of red. Ive put the dye on and left it for the right amount of time, but its really really dark, much darker than the picture on the box. Is there anything i can do to make it lighter, either putting on another dye or some other product. I have very pale skin, and my hair looks terrible!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i have dark hair blaky brunette colour and i used to be blonde you get used to it but yes there is a way go to your hair dressers and theres this thing that they do and it makes your hair lighter and doesnt damage it,and if you want to do it a longer way use vosene or head and shoulders and it washes the colour out little bit or put lemon on your hair and sit in the sun copuld always go for highlights to lighten it up but whatever u do ,do not bleach ova and over i did that and my hair was reked

try washing it a with just shampoo (without the colour fade) then dry it then a few hours later wash it again and dry it. that normally will wash some of the colour out etc.

You should wait at least a couple of weeks before you put anymore dye in your hair. You are killing it. Your hair will feel like Cotton candy if you keep dyeing it. After a few washes it will lighten up a bit. Especially because when you died it blond the first time you striped your hair of all your natural tones. But because the dark color is over the light it will fade fast. So give your hair a couple weeks and go to a hair salon because they're hair products are less acidic and are way better for your hair than a box.

Even though lemon juice is often used to make your hair lighter, I wouldn't do it until the dye has settled into your hair or until the extra hair dye is out because your hair can turn orange.
Just use a shampoo over and over again for the next few days and then try putting lemon juice in it.

I had the same thing happen to me except i was a hair salon. I was a blonde and i wanted them to put light brown highlights in it. long story short my hair grab the color really fast and it turned Dark Brown. once they rinsed it out it stained the rest of my hair dark brown. I went to a different hair salon and they started to put more blond in in by highlighting it in. There is no simple one stop magical cure. I know this from experience. But in about 6 months I went from dark brown back to light blonde. I know this sucks andI cried every night when it happened. I feel your pain.Find a good salon person and fix it little by little if you try to fix it all at once it may turn orange, or fry your hair off or the whole thing could turn frizzy, which it turn you will have to cut a lot of it off.

if you are naturally dark...the results will be darker than the product says....you will have to do it in two stages to get your hair lighter.....pre lighten hair before....i would recommend going to the hairdressers to put right though....if not best to leave it a few weeks...

you could try a dye lightening serum!
the hair salon would be a good option
or if you want medium brown get a light brown, or dark blonde!

okay please let me explain- you don't "dye" your hair blonde you BLEACH it blonde, to bleach is to mean to strip your hair of it's natural colour and what you are left with is the undertones, i bet you went through the orange/ginger/bright yellow stage to get blonde didn't you? that would be the stages of stripping the natural pigment out. so now you have done that and made your hair porous then you have gone and chosen a box dye and thought your hair would turn out like the girl on the front of the box huh? well honey that won't happen because due to you bleaching your hair you have made it dry and porous (think of a plant that is really thirsty and just needs a drink of water) well that was your hair, so it soaked or "drunk" the haircolour hence making it too dark. so what you need to do is to purchase colorfix colour remover which will remove the now artificial pigment you have put in your hair and then decide what you want to do next. if you want blonde then you will need to bleach and tone (use professional products please not otc box colours) if you want dark hair then choose a colour much lighter than you want it to actually turn out and because of your hairs porosity it will soak up the colour again making it darker than it should be but more the colour you want.

whatever you do , do not bleach it again, go to your nearest Sallys Hair Store or a good chemist and buy a good toner for the colour you want follow the instructions to the letter
the toner has no bleaching agents so you are safe, however use a very good conditioner everytime you wash it
