Could you dye your hair semi without bleaching it?

I want to dye my hair a funcky color, and I need to know if I should bleach it or not. If I don't, can I still dye it teal or purple? I have another question out asking where I can find hair dye, but I really need to know about the bleaching. Oh, and if I do have to bleach, how can I not destroy my hair? Thanks!!!

Depends on your natural hair color/whatever color it is right now. I had to bleach mine almost blond/white to get it the real color of the dye (blue and red), otherwise it would turn out a mix of the dye and the light brown/orange I bleached it too (making it turn out green or orange).

Semi-permanent dye also washes out quickly, meaning it'll fade fast. So for my hair, it stayed dark blue for a week or so, then eventually turquoise/green. Also, sometimes semi-perm is more like a permanent faded color, so keep that in mind.

Bleaching isn't so bad, just don't leave it in longer than the instructions say, and use conditioner after putting the dye in (not before, so it can lock the dye in). Also, if you can't get it bleached to the color you want on your first try, don't bleach it again right away, give it at least a week or 2 to recover.

if you want semis you have to bleach unless you are already blond. if you do bleach do not use bleach in the box use the pro stuff which you have to mix equally (peroxide 20 volume + bleach) at equal parts should be less harrassing to your hair than that boxed stuff, i am a hairstylist and my hair is fushia, way to express yourself, more power to you...

some colors are just stains and wil actually get brighter the more you use them with out bleaching. bleaching is bad for yr hair, but its all about how bright you want the color. just look for a veggie based semi dye that will keep yr hair semi healthy after bleaching. good luck!
