Hair colour & dye.?

I have medium brown/auburn hair. Eveytime i dye my hair darker the dye ends up fading into a light red/brown. i always dye my hair darker instead of lighter. it just never lasts. What is the best hair dye brand to dye my hairt a few shades off black and so it wont fade?

thanks.

The reason this is happening is the cuticle layer of your hair is open, probably from using 'permanent' hair color. To avoid further damage and get better staying power you do not want to use color with peroxide or ammonia. One of the best color lines for no lift, no ammonia permanent hair color is Redken's Shades EQ. Another top quality line is Goldwell's Colorance- though it is harder to find. Unfortunately, for these brands you will have to go to a stylist- they are sold to licensed professionals only.

Home dye will never give you a perfect shade. Your best bet is a salon. I would never use the home stuff on my hair

Okay then, you should use Hydrience in darkest brown...... but it wont look good.

get it done professionally...they put a base on it so it won't fade

The best brand is definitely Schwartzkopf Live permanent colour, it worked a gem for me when I dyed my hair black, but if you continue to have problems, get it done professionally!

dont buy and do it yourself.

go to a salon, pay the extra money and be happy with your hair for ALOT longer

trust me, its worth it.

and be sure to tell your hairdresser exactly what you ask here so she/he knows what products to use,.

Well your since your hair is light it's probably going to take a few dying times to hold darker color you want. But be careful, don't keep dying it. I'd go to a salon and get it done...or go to sallys beauty supply and get the good dye.

Go To a professional salon- they use products that will give you the best result- much better than a store bought kit

try wella its the kind of dye pros use they sell it in the beauty stores and you have to buy the dye and the cream seperately but its a good dye oh and the cream gat it in a 30 (volume)

Go to a specialist store for hair dyes/salon products and ask for advice on mixing the colour yourself. The products at these places are of a much higher quality and are more likely to stay in your hair!

I always use a dye ( you can get it at walmart) It's called "brass free brunettes".... I believe it is Clairol??? What you want though is The "brass free" part...... It will help your hair not to fade into that almost reddish-brown color.... and it usually takes a couple times dying your hair dark to get it to take!

Unfortunately, hair color fades over time. The red shades are the worst for that, but they all do.

What are you using? There are several types of color. A rinse washes out with the very first shampoo (Roux Fancifull, for example). Semi-permanent dye lasts several weeks and gradually fades. Permanent color opens the hair shaft and changes the hair color from the inside, so it lasts longest. You'll also get roots when you have new growth. Even so, the color becomes less intense over time.

Use something with staying power, and also use gentler hair products; some say they're good for color treated hair, some are even formulated for specific color groupings. I do tend to buy the shampoos like that, though I honestly can't say if they work that well.

Hope this helps some! You might also get some tips by calling the 800 number of a hair color company.

I had the same problem. When the guy that colored my hair retired, he told me this:

If you spend more than 1 hour in the sun between colorings(not daily, not weekly, but between colorings) AND you use a permanent (level 3 or 4) color, your color will bleach out, if you go darker, because all permanent color has peroxide in it.Peroxide is what makes permanent color permanent.Try using a semi-permanent color next time. I know it seems weird, but I've been really happy since I switched. I go to the beauty supply house and use Wella. I do it myself. Hope this helps!

You could bleach the hair to lighten it a bit. Use volume 20 peroxide on your hair to strip the natural colour so that the permanant hair colour will stick. Wait about 30-45 minutes. I'd wait probably about a week after bleaching before you colour the hair. Condition it each time you wash it so your hair does not dry out.
